One of the biggest moments in the history of Finnish cricket is just around the corner! Kerava and Vantaa will host ICC 2024 Men’s T20 WC Europe Sub-Regional Qualifiers in July 2022. The two qualifier tournaments will be the biggest ever cricket events organized in the Finnish soil. Now we are looking for volunteers to create two unforgettable events. Volunteer recruitment will close at Friday 1st of July.
Volunteering will provide a unique opportunity to experience an international sporting event behind the scenes, get to know the second biggest sport in the world, and to create new friendships with other sport enthusiasts!
The two tournaments will be organized at Kerava National Cricket Ground and Tikkurila Cricket Ground with 20 national teams. Group A (featuring Finnish national team!) will be played from July 12th to 19th, and Group B from July 24th to 31st. You can more info for the tournaments here.
What do we expect from the volunteers, and what do we provide?
You can apply if you are over 16 years old and excited to participate in organizing an international sporting event. We expect happy, can-do attitude from our volunteers. Knowledge in cricket isn’t obligatory in most volunteer positions.
We expect that you are able to do at least three shifts during the two tournaments. The duration of shifts varies by task, one shift is usually 6–8 hours. A warm meal is provided to volunteers during shifts. Volunteers will also receive official tournament t-shirt and a certificate (if needed). Please note that we can’t compensate accommodation, travel or other costs, nor take part in the travel arrangements. Only exception are the four paid roles which need expertise in cricket and sports management.
How will the volunteer recruitment process proceed?
The recruitment for volunteers is now open and will end on 1st July 2022. You can apply for all the volunteer positions by filling the application form (link below the page). If you have previously volunteered for cricket or other events, please tell us about your experience and any special skills you may have.
The Local Organizing Committee will select volunteers by 13th May 2022. We will inform each applicant personally about the volunteer selections.
The selected volunteers will have a training session in Kerava 11th June 2022 from 12.00 to 15.00. You can also take part in the training session by Microsoft Teams.
Some of the volunteer tasks begin already on 9th July 2022. The tasks are mainly related to the game events so most of the volunteers are needed from 12th to 31st July 2022.
