Mahesh Tambe, representing Empire Cricket Club and Finnish National Cricket Team, the Bears, has been chosen by the Finnish Sportswriters’ Association as the Best Athlete in Cricket for 2021. Mahesh Tambe is the first cricket player nominated after cricket was chosen to the Finnish Best Athletes by Sport listing last year.
The Finnish Sportswriters’ Association has been selecting the best of the best since 1946. The listing has been growing ever since, for the year 2021, there were in all 77 athletes representing different sports. The Finnish Sportswriters’ Association makes independent decisions on who is selected based on individual performances in both domestic and international competitions. The national associations, such as Cricket Finland, have no part in the final decision process.
“I am deeply pleased and honoured to receive this prestigious award. I sincerely thank my teammates in the Finnish Bears squad and at Empire Cricket Club. This award will provide further motivation in our quest to achieve new heights for Finnish Cricket,” says Mahesh Tambe.
