Establishing Cricket Finland

Key Milestones

• 1999

  Formation of Cricket Finland

  The Finnish Cricket Association was established by four founding member clubs, creating the official governing body for cricket in Finland.
• 2000

  ICC Affiliate Membership

  Cricket Finland secured affiliate membership in the International Cricket Council (ICC), joining the global cricketing fraternity and gaining international recognition.
• 2000

  Organized Cricket

  Formation of the first organised clubs and national competitions. Cricker begins spreading beyond Helsinki to other regions.
• 2014

  Kerava National Cricket Ground Opens

  A significant milestone in Finnish cricket came with the grand opening of the Kerava National Cricket Ground. Located just outside Helsinki, the facility provided Finland's cricket community with a dedicated venue for hosting both domestic and international matches. The ground also boosted visibility and support for the sport nationwide, helping it reach a larger audience.
• 2016

  Growing Recognition

  Following the Kerava ground's inauguration, cricket's popularity in Finland surged, and by the end of 2016, Finland had registered significant growth in clubs and players. The increased status not only gave Cricket Finland greater access to ICC resources and global networks but also paved the way for Finnish teams to compete more widely at the European and international levels.
• 2017

  ICC Associate Member Status

  Cricket Finland's growing stature and efforts to promote the sport were recognized internationally, leading to its upgrade to an associate member of the ICC in 2017.
• 2022

  ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier

  Finland hosted two of the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup Europe sub-regional qualifiers for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The sub-regional Qualifier A and B tournaments were played in July 2022 at venues in Finland, with teams from across Europe competing as part of the regional qualification pathway for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

  Continued Growth

  In addition to its ICC membership, Cricket Finland holds a place within the Finnish Olympic Committee, reflecting its broader role in the Finnish sports landscape. This affiliation strengthens cricket's position as a recognized and respected sport in Finland, contributing to the continued growth and development of the game. Today, Cricket Finland oversees a vibrant community, with numerous clubs, leagues, and programs aimed at nurturing players from the grassroots to the elite levels.
